About me
I am an experienced organic chemist driven by a passion for delving into the intricacies of the molecular realm. My scientific pursuits align closely with a pivotal current in modern organic chemistry—specifically, asymmetric catalysis. My focus revolves around the synthesis and application of catalysts characterized by their precisely defined spatial structures in crafting biologically relevant compounds. I am actively engaged in designing, modifying, and employing novel catalysts, unraveling unique chemical transformations with far-reaching applications. The solutions derived from my work serve as innovative tools for designing and formulating new drugs, pesticides, and other significant molecules.
My academic journey unfolds within the Faculty of Chemistry at the Lodz University of Technology. Having completed my studies in the chemistry of biologically important compounds in 2004, I went on to defend my doctoral thesis five years later, earning recognition through the Prime Minister Award and Award of Sigma-Aldrich and the Polish Chemical Society. In 2015, I attained a habilitation degree in chemical sciences, followed by full professorship four years later. A postdoctoral fellowship from 2009 to 2013, as part of Professor Karl Anker Jørgensen's research team at Aarhus University in Denmark, was made possible through the Kolumb programme of the Foundation for Polish Science.
My scientific contributions encompass over 120 publications in esteemed chemical journals listed in the JCR, along with several book chapters. Actively leading and participating in research projects, I collaborate with industrial partners, aiming to translate my team's findings into practical applications. I have successfully managed research grants from funding agencies such as the National Science Center, Foundation for Polish Science, and the National Center for Research and Development.
Throughout my scientific career I have taken on leadership activities and responsibilities. Initially as a project leader to become a leader of a research group. My commitment extends to nurturing the potential of young chemistry students, serving as a mentor, and inspiring independent thinking and exploration of new scientific frontiers. Since 2020, I have acted as the Vice-Rector for Science at the Lodz University of Technology, advocating for an efficient university that empowers its scientists to build and showcase their scientific excellence. I was a member of the Scientific Council of the Center for Molecular and Macromolecular Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Łódź and chaired the Council for Academic Degrees in the disciplines of chemical sciences, chemical engineering, food and nutrition at the Lodz University of Technology. From 2017 to 2021, I held the position of deputy director of the Institute of Organic Chemistry at the Lodz University of Technology for scientific affairs, and since 2021, I have served as the director of this Institute.
